Must Have Baby Safety Equipment
Childproofing the house is a rather long process and it can be intimidating as there is a lot of baby safety equipment to choose from. However, there are a few that can be done away with and some that you absolutely must have. Read on to find out more about what you should have in your home to make sure your baby is completely safe.
Child locks
On all doors, windows, wardrobes and even refrigerator door and openings to small enclosures, it is mandatory to have the child locks. These will prevent the baby or the child from opening them and getting stuck inside. Such situations are among the most common baby safety issues. When fixing child locks, make sure that they are at a good height from the floor so that they work even as the child grows.
Staircase doors
Climbing up and down the stairs is quite difficult for toddlers and they are especially dangerous for babies. Have a gate installed at both ends of the staircase and make sure it is safely bolted and out of reach of the child to make sure he or she doesn’t run along them. In addition, have the gaps of the staircase railing filled with polythene paper or other solid filling to prevent the baby from falling through or getting stuck.
Baby monitors
These are essential, especially if the baby has a separate room. It is a one way wireless device, the speaker of which is kept with the parents and when the baby cries out, he or she can be attended to immediately. While these will alert you if the baby needs something, do not leave the baby alone in the house.
Harnesses and child seats
As babies grow, they tend to become more active and try to sit upright. If the baby is not secured properly with a harness, either in the pram or buggy or even a chair, he or she can tilt over and fall down. When driving, make sure that the baby is secure in a child seat, preferably facing forward. This will be more comfortable for the baby.
Having a child is a blessing and raising one is the most fulfilling experience one can have. However, it can be challenging and there can be a lot of unforeseen problems. We hope that with the above information, raising a baby can be made at least a little bit easier.
